Gate driver is plug-and-play with 4500V IGBT power modules
Power Integrations has launched a single-channel, +15/-10 V gate driver aimed at the latest 4500 V press-pack IGBT (PPI) power modules.
The 1SP0351 SCALE-2 is aimed at modules from manufacturers such as Toshiba, Westcode and ABB for high-reliability applications such as high voltage DC voltage source converters (HVDC VSC), STATCOM/FACTS static compensators and medium-voltage drives.
The 1SP0351 drivers use Dynamic Advanced Active Clamping (DAAC) and include short-circuit protection, a built in DC-DC converter, regulated turn-on gate-drive voltage, DC-DC overload monitoring and supply-voltage monitoring. Active Miller Clamping is also included. The SCALE-2 ASIC chipset uses digital control techniques to reduce component count by as much as 85 per cent compared with conventional solutions, significantly increasing reliability.
The 1SP0351 gate driver has a plug-and-play capability for easier commissioning of the modules. A simple two-pin power plug also simplifies operation, and a conformal coating increases product ruggedness and reliability.
The 1SP0351 SCALE-2 gate driver meets creepage and clearance specifications according to IEC standards (IEC 61800-5-1) and is available now priced at $214.20 in 1,000-piece quantities.
