The GS series of electrolytic capacitors from FTCAP has soldered lugs for more reliable connection to cables.

FTCAP, part of the Mersen Group, has launched several ranges of electroytic capacitors with soldered lugs so that they can be connected reliably to a cable. The fully welded design increases the life of the capacitors.

Aluminium electrolytic capacitors with solder lugs are needed in applications where the capacitor is separate from the electronic circuitry and cannot be mounted directly on the printed circuit board. In this case, the solder lugs allow flexible connection by means of a soldered cable.

The standard capacities of solder lug capacitors range from 56 to 330,000 µF at voltages of 16 to 500 volts. The GS series from FTCAP provides a solution with solder pins based on DIN requirements.

“There are two basic types of solder lugs or solder pins: with closed and open eyes,” said André Tausche, Managing Director of FTCAP. “The difference is that in the second version the cable can be fed through the eye. But we also offer numerous variations within these two categories. This allows us to offer customers maximum flexibility in connecting the cable.” The solder lug capacitors from FTCAP also feature a fully welded design: The life of these capacitors is much longer than that of riveted models.

FTCAP electrolytic capacitors with solder lugs provide reliable solutions with high energy density, which in turn allows high discharge currents. Potential areas of application for solder lug capacitors include switch-mode power supplies, computers, industrial electronics, and drive systems. In welding machines, solder lug connections allow the fast and flexible configuration of custom capacitor banks of any size that can supply the required high current pulses. Another use is in IPL (intense pulsed light) devices: The capacitors are installed in the handles of mobile consumer devices, while the PCB is on top – the distance is bridged by a cable.

As with all FTCAP capacitors, the production team can respond flexibly to individual customer requirements by adapting these capacitors to include custom connection
