The TCKE712BNL eFuse from Toshiba has a trip time of 320ns and has an input voltage range of 4.4V to 13.2V with programmable over-voltage protection for consumer designs

Toshiba Electronics Europe has developed a resettable eFuse with programmable over-voltage protection.

The TCKE712BNL eFuse is aimed at a wide range of consumer electronics goods, including cameras, cordless cleaner and power tools, cleaning robots, server, smart, speaker, thermostats and wireless chargers.

Conventional fuses, such as glass tube and chip fuses, protect power supply lines by breaking if there is excessive current. eFuses provide a much more effective alternative. Unlike conventional fuses, they are designed to support repeated use, being automatically reset by an internal logic signal. The rugged electroinc switch in these devices also provides a faster response to prevent damage to the equipmet and allow higher levels of integration with more built-in protection functions.

The TCKE712BNL eFuse has an on-resistance of 53mΩ and a trip time of 320ns. It covers an input voltage range spanning from 4.4V to 13.2V. It is possible to adjust this device’s over-voltage threshold to fit with the specific application requirements. The over-current level is also adjustable, and the eFue includes over-temperature and short-circuit protection mechanisms. A flag function transmits an external signal that will alert engineers of possible faults in the circuit design, so they can be addressed early on in the development process. Thanks to the reverse current blocking feature, there is the scope for this device to be employed in multiplexed systems.

The TCKE712BNL eFuse is supplied in a compact WSON10 package measuring 3.00mm x 3.00mm to take up minimal board space.
