GCT has added enhanced current rating for fast charging to its high durability USB A connectors.
The USB1130 and USB1135 are aimed at fast charging and 'high traffic' applications. GCT says it has seen an increasing demand for USB Type A connectors with ultra-high mating cycles, primarily for equipment and hardware in public environments and transportation applications for charging purposes. Increased usage is likely due to exposure to high levels of footfall.
The USB1130 is a USB-A 2.0 connector tested to 10,000 mating cycles, and the USB1135 is a 3.0 variant with 20,000 cycles tested, although the previous USB1086 USB A 3.0 connector also had a lifetime of 20,000 cycles but half the current capability.
Both connectors are 3A rated, double that of comparable products, giving designs the option for quick charge functionality. The connectors are available in top mount, through-hole configuration, with two kinked shell stakes for PCB retention while processing.
The higher durability is achieved with improved retention forces from a stainless-steel construction used for the shell of each connector. This makes the USB1130 over six times more durable than standard USB A 2.0, and the USB1135 twice as durable than standard USB A 3.0.
“There is demand for higher performance USB A connectors, and this has helped the development of the USB1130 and USB1135,” said Andrew Stewart, GCT Sales Director. “USB A connectors are synonymous with charging, and many devices that have constant mating requirements will be able to benefit from higher mating cycles these connectors offer.”
The USB1130 and USB1135 USB A connectors are now available from Digi-Key.
