Energous has launched a developers kit for long distance wireless charging of smart glasses.

The kits uses the WattUp wireless charging transmitter and receiver reference designs for smart glasses, as well as data sheets, a mobile app and the software development kit (SDK).

The reference design transmitter incorporates the DA4100, DA3210 and DA14682 ICs from Dialog Semiconductor, a strategic investor in Energous. The DA4100 is a highly integrated System-on-Chip RF transmitter IC, while the DA3210 is a high-power, high-efficiency power amplifier (PA) and the DA14682 is a Bluetooth low energy 5.0 System-on-Chip (SoC) with enhanced security and integrated FLASH memory.

On the receiver side, the DA2223 RF-to-DC receiver can be connected to up to four antennas and the DA14585 is a size-optimized, ultra-low power Bluetooth low energy SoC ideal for small form factor product designs. The complete chipset is available from Dialog.

Energous received the world’s first FCC Part 18 certification for at-a-distance wireless charging, and the company has 215 awarded patents/allowed applications for its WattUp wireless charging technology.

“The WattUp smart glasses developer kit marks the third such kit to be made available to potential customers of Energous’ technology. Each kit includes all of the necessary antenna designs, hardware, software and fully qualified chips to integrate WattUp into smart glasses, which we believe will be a significant and fast-growing market segment for our business,” said Stephen R. Rizzone, president and CEO of Energous Corporation. “The inherent advantages of the WattUp RF-based wireless charging 2.0 technology include a small footprint, freedom of placement, high-efficiency for reduced thermal problems, higher charging power and compatibility with future releases of WattUp distance transmitters. These advantages make WattUp the ideal choice to power the next generation of smart glasses.”
