The €200m deal comes from a purchase contract of November 2017 and deliveries will take place over the next two to three years, a BMZ spokesman announced. The battery systems have capacities of up to 790 kWh, with which the buses can travel up to 650 km without intermediate charging.
Currently just 300 of the roughly 45.000 public transport buses in Germany are electrically powered, and only half of them use battery technology says Eurabus.
The lithium-ion batteries developed at the BMZ E.Volution Center in Germany are equipped with a special battery management system that enables the E-buses to continue operation even in the event of a partial battery failure. The cells for Eurabus’ e-buses are round cells with high energy density, which BMZ has produced in Japan on its own production lines.
