300W AC-DC converter measures 4 x 2in
The conduction cooled VCCS300S AC-DC converter from Vox Power has a power density of 23W per cubic inch.

Vox Power in Ireland has launched a conduction cooled rugged AC-DC converter power supply that delivers 300W in a 4in x 2in x 1.61in (101.6 x 50.8 x 40.89 mm) package.

The VCCS300S is designed for global operation in industrial applications including robotics, automation, test and measurement and industrial lasers.

The AC-DC converter weighs 310g and is a true conduction cooled power supply with an efficiency up to 95 percent that can also be convection or forced-air cooled. The custom cooling techniques allow for effective heat dissipation enabling full power operation up to 40°C ambient temperature. The power supply complies with UL/IEC62368-1 as well as various MIL-STD standards for ruggedized environments.

By bringing units together, either in parallel or in series, output power can be scaled to 600W, 900W and beyond making the VCCS300S suitable as a power platform serving multiple products with varied power output requirements.

“What we have done with the VCCS300S is successfully converge two power market segments” said Marco Prinsloo, CEO. “On the one hand, there are miniaturized applications which may have limited space for a power supply but have increased power requirements to achieve the required application feature set. The VCCS300 addresses this challenge by offering a much higher output power from the tiny package.”

“Then, there are higher power applications where customers want to reduce the size of their offerings but are again limited because higher-power units are only available in larger footprints. The VCCS300S delivers output power levels which have historically only been available from much larger 5 x 3in power supplies. Such applications include industrial lasers, automation, robotics and 3D printing,” said David Carley, Business Development at Vox Power.

The input voltage range is 85 to 264VAC (0.99 power factor) and output voltages are set initially at 12, 24 and 48VDC with in-between voltages up to 58VDC available on request. No load power consumption is below 1W.
