Diodes' 18V, 6A AP62600 synchronous buck converter provides DC-DC conversion at the point of load in a wide range of consumer applications.

Diodes has launched an 18V, 6A synchronous DC-DC buck converter for point-of-load (POL) conversion in applications such as TVs, monitors, white goods, home appliances, consumer electronics and large-scale integrated circuits.

The AP62600 delivers up to 6A of output from a supply voltage of 4.5V to 18V with integrated high-side and low-side MOSFETs with 36mΩ and 14mΩ on-resistances (RDSon) in a 2 x 3mm package to increase the range of applications it can address. 

The buck converter uses a  proprietary gate driver scheme, coupled with fast transient response, to reduce high-frequency radiated EMI as well as minimise switching node ringing. The switching frequencies are selectable at 400kHz, 800kHz, and 1.2MHz to give designers more flexibility, allowing them to optimize component choices for efficiency or a smaller form factor with smaller magnetics operating at higher frequencies. 

There is also the choice of using pulsed frequency modulation (PFM) operation as well as pulse width modulation (PWM) to get the best ripple performance and an ultrasonic mode (USM), which avoids audible noise at light loads which can be common in consumer designs.

The buck converter includes a power-good indicator, which alerts users to any fault conditions that may arise. A programmable soft-startup mode controls inrush current at power-up, enabling designers to implement power sequencing when using multiple AP62600s to supply large integrated devices, such as FPGAs, ASICs, DSPs, and microprocessors.

The AP62600 expands on recent 40V (AP64xxx) and 32V (AP63xxx) devices and is available in the V-QFN2030-12 package, priced at $1.10 each in 1000 piece quantities.
