The industry’s smallest 12-V, 750-mA DC/DC power regulator has been claimed this week by Texas Instruments.  

The SIMPLE SWITCHER regulator features high performance and nano packaging to drive space-constrained and power dense applications in a variety of markets, including consumer, industrial and automotive. Packing a number of features into a 2.56-mm2 package, the nano power regulator makes it easier for engineers to design a power supply for their system, and along with TI’s WEBENCH online design tool, simplifies and speeds the process.

The 750-mA LMR22007 switching regulator features a low-current mode to maintain efficiency under light-load conditions. Control architecture provides fast transient performance and excellent regulation under varying input and output conditions. The LMR22007 delivers up to 750 mA of continuous load current with the addition of an adjustable input current limit, which protects the source supply during start-up by preventing excessive inrush currents.  A complete 12-V, VIN to VOUT LMR22007 power supply design measures less than 30 mm2 with as few as three external components.

Efficient Power Conversion Corporation (EPC) has aso introduced the EPC9013 development board featuring the 100 V EPC2001 enhancement mode (eGaN) field effect transistor (FET) operating up to a 35 A maximum output current in Buck mode using a four half-bridge configuration in parallel and a single onboard gate drive.  This innovative design increases output power without sacrificing efficiency.

The EPC9013 development board is 2 inch x 2 inch with eight EPC2001 eGaN FETs in conjunction with the Texas Instruments LM5113 gate driver. The development board can be operated as a Buck, Boost, or bidirectional, as well as a half bridge for motor drives and isolated converter applications.  Its parallel configuration is recommended for high current applications.

A 140V input-capable high efficiency buck converter that delivers up to 250mA of continuous output current has been released this week by Linear Technology.

The LTC3638 operates from an input voltage range of 4 V to 140 V, making it ideal for telecom, industrial, avionic and automotive applications. The device utilizes internal synchronous rectification and a programmable hysteretic-mode design to optimize efficiency over a broad range of output currents. The device delivers efficiencies as high as 88% and requires 12µA of quiescent current, maximizing battery run time. A user-programmable output current limit can be set from 20 mA to 250 mA as required by the application.

Murata has aso made two additions to the company’s Okami OKL range of non-isolated point-of-load (PoL) DC-DC converters manufactured by Murata Power Solutions.

The OKL2-T/12 and the OKL2-T/20 converters feature Murata’s innovative inspectable Land Grid Array (iLGA) package that allows ease of probing of all signal pads and visual inspection that is not possible when conventional LGA packages are used. Both models are highly efficient with conversion efficiency typically in the range of 93 – 95%. The OKL2 series suit space-constrained distributed power applications such as embedded computing, networking, and telecommunications equipment.

The OKL2-T/12, measures 20.32 x 11.43 x 8.55 mm and delivers up to 12 Amp output whie the OKL2-T/20 provides 20 Amps from a 33.02 x 13.46 x 8.75 mm package. Both models have two variants that accommodate a wide input range around a nominal 5 VDC (2.4 – 5.5 VDC) or 12 VDC (4.5 – 14 VDC). The 5 V models provide a programmable output voltage in the range of 0.6 – 3.63 VDC and the 12 VDC models in the range 0.69 – 5.5 VDC.
