Accurately modelling cell life allows battery packs to be used for longer, reducing the environmental impact. The Measure, Act, Predict (MAP) algorithms developed by PowerUp are used to test cells, modules and battery packs for state-of-health diagnosis and charge management to maximise lifetime.
The battery monitoring algorithms use incremental capacity analysis that allow Li-ion batteries to be diagnosed with an accuracy of around 2 percent under real-life conditions without interrupting their use.
The second round of funding for the three year old spinout of CEA-Liten comes from EDF and French fund Supernova Invest, which also backs carbon nanotube battery company NAWA Technologies and AI camera sensor maker Prophesee.
The initial focus on systems in France, then expanding in Europe and North America, and the company will recruit 25 staff in the next two years in both sales and engineering.
The deal includes a partnership between EDF R&D and PowerUp to accelerate the development of more efficient algorithms for the modelling and diagnosis of the battery condition of large stationary ESS systems.
