£5m EV Research Centre includes digital twins
Ricardo’s £5.5m (€6.4m) EV research centre will enable the research and development of the next generation of electrified vehicles from component level subsystems to fully integrated powertrains.
The centre will use digital twins which replicate the physical environment and will be refined with actual test data to accelerate development times. The facility is designed to integrate into the company’s digital analysis, simulation and calibration accelerators so that vehicles can be developed digitally.
The centre will also work with the hydrogen test and development centre being bult by Ricardo to create a clean energy transport centre of excellence that the company says will be unique in the UK. This will provide customers with access to key electrified transport engineering test and development services, the company adds.

A key component of our strategy is to establish a global centre of excellence for electrified transport engineering at our Shoreham Technical Centre: which will be essential for the future of sustainable mobility,” said Steve Dyke, Managing Director Ricardo Automotive and Industrial EMEA Division.
