Addressing architecture challenges in high performance computing

Designing a High Performance Computing system (HPC) architecture is challenging. Typical challenges in such architectures include high memory reference times, low memory bandwidth, task distribution across multiple cores/processors, interconnect networks, high power consumption and energy dissipation. A highly efficient HPC system can be realized only by making the right architectural decisions considering these challenges for the target applications and underlying algorithms.
