Maxim, Monolithic Power battle over DC-DC converter patents
Volterra is asking for money to compensate for damage to its business and order prohibiting MPS from selling DC-DC converter products that allegedly infringe.The patents cited by Maxim and Volterra include those with US patent numbers 6,362,986, 7,525,408 and 7,772,955.
Maxim acquired Volterra Semiconductor on October 1, 2013 for its expertise in low-voltage power delivery. The company’s product portfolio, both prior to acquisition and as part of Maxim, includes advanced switching regulators for the computer, datacom, storage and portable markets.
“Maxim acquired Volterra in order to offer best-in-class technology and has made significant investments in that area,” said Achyut Shah, Maxim’s vice president of the cloud and data center business unit. “Maxim highly values this investment and is taking action to protect its legally recognized patent rights.”
MPS had not responded to the suit at the time this story was published.
